OBJECTIVEThe objective of JugarxJugarSolidariamente is to organize entertainment, games and recreation events to communicate the job of different people or organizations that develop their job in the social field.VISIONWe aim at being a national communication project for charity purposes.MISIONTo generate the possibility for different organizations that work in the social field to present and communicate their jobs and needs. To facilitate the contact between the organizations and those who attend the event, so that those who could be interested in any of the projects, can approach the one they like the most, when they feel like doing it, freely and in total respect of their values and personal interests.To create an amusing space for entertainment, games, and/or recreation activities, where the most important values are good sense of humor, good feelings, good manners, respect for the rest of participants and the desired of being part of a charity activity.VALUESSolidarity. Page 2 BACKGROUNDMy name is Hugo Maffi, born in Campana City, in Buenos Aires Province, on September 25th, 1954.I have participated in different activities related with entertainment and charity since my youth.I have been training in workshops dealing with different kinds of expressions during the last 12 years, for example:Spanish guitar, story telling, clown, games and creativity, improvisation, Argentine tango dance.In 2002 I created the group Musicuentos to develop social and charity activities using storytelling and music to let people access to entertainment activities, especially elderly people and children. The group was joined by 15 storytellers, actors and musicians and performed for about 2 years.HISTORYI, together with my children, Juan Martín Maffi (18) and Lucía Maffi (16) started working in Musical Lottery, our first event, in March 2008.Nowadays my family, friends, acquaintances, and a lot of people are participating. Page 5 Dear All:The poet says: How can I explain what I feel if there are no words that can describe this feeling.Rephrasing Elisas words when she said: Life is being knit everyday and I think she is right since what happened last Friday at The Charity Milonga was an example that in various aspects illustrates the idea that we can knit a better life among all of us and for everybody.Listening to Elisa has provoked in me a deep emotion.I must confess that I fell in love with this project: The Milonga for the Children http://www.paralosninos.net the moment Jude Gaunt told us about it. To be part of a net of milongas around the World that once a year will donate all or part of the funds to help poor children from Argentina and South America, is a Fantastic idea.And after meeting Elisa, the Alma Mater of el Hogar Los Horneros, its community and the children, the people belonging to JugarxJugarSolidariamente were determined to collaborate in looking for someone interested in being part of this net in Buenos Aires, and for the first time after 10 years of organizing la Milonga for the Kids in Brisbane, Australia, on the last week of July, there was also a Milonga for the Kids in Buenos Aires. Graciela López, the organizer of La Milonguita www.milonguitabaile.com.ar accepted the invitation and from that moment on a lot people adhered and helped to collect argentine$ 4000.- in different ways:Communicating this event through radio programs, newspapers, the Internet, mails, etc. Donating gifts for the Raffles for the HomeSelling almost 500 rafflesComing almost 220 people to the event giving warmth and energy to a great evening. Jude told us that since 2002 a group of lovers of Tango from her city has been organizing a gala milonga called Milonga for the Children during the last week of July. The objective is to get funds for poor children of Argentina and South America: a way of giving back some of the joy and happiness that Tango has given them.This project, Milonga for the Children, aims at generating a net of milongas around the world to help poor children so they have set a Non-Profitable Organization in 2003 called Society for Children.Soon, other cities of Australia and since last year other cities from the World, like Miami, New York and Toronto, joined this net. This couple has found a place to help: Hogar Los Horneros, located in La Reja, Moreno County, in Buenos Aires province, This home is run by Elisa, a very special woman. In this home 13 children of different ages are living and being taken care of. A lot of children, who are grown-ups now have lived in this home and are still in contact with it. The organizers of Milonga for the children would like other milongas from Buenos Aires and/or Argentina and the World to become part of this net in order to increase the help.Graciela López, organizer of La Milonguita http://www.milonguitabaile.com.ar/ has already committed her participation. This Home is the one that receives the funds collected by Milongas for the Children http://www.paralosninos.net/ in Australia, and other parts of the world. (You can read everything about this below).In this opportunity we shared a barbecue, Jude handed out Christmas gifts and we spent the afternoon chatting with Elisa and playing with the 13 children that live there. Elisa is an active woman who irradiates an envious calm. Im surprised with the quantity and quality of the charitable things she has done along these years.To give an example of this, Elisa told us that some time ago, living in a poor neighborhood, there was a terrible flood that covered the whole of it causing everybody to leave their few belongings and establish in a near area. One day chatting with other women in her same situation, she asked: Why should we have such a sad life? Lets do something, she suggested.And they did it indeed!! They have set up a bakery where they elaborate bread for the neighbors, have built a place to eat where they can give some food for their children and so on and so forth.Today, they are all owners of their lots and the dining place became a kind of club for the neighborhood. When someone offered a lot where the Home Los Horneros is working today, there she went with her own children and the abandoned ones she was coming across.In this place, almost without resources, without gas, light or hot water, cooking outdoors, she fed 80 children every weekend. Elisa prepared the food for all of them with the help of some neighbors.When Mercedes and Hernán Domini, decided to find who to help through Milonga for the Children, Elisa appeared in their lives.And this is how Elisa and the children have started to receive help from this of sensitive and charitable Australian group of Tango lovers.The Home received windows for the house, gas connexion, a water heater, cutlery, an oven and food.Today Elisa needs people to help her in the daily activities with the children.All of you who may be interested in collaborating will be very welcome.In the next Newsletter I will tell you more about Milonga for the Children and the Home Los Horneros.I thank you very much Adriana Méndez for the translation of the mails into English.Warm regards,HugoDo you know (that)1) ...there is a small town of 136 families located 20 km from Pergamino, Buenos Aires Province, approximately 230 km from Buenos Aires City? Who am I talking about?3) ...that the primary School Juan Larrea from Juan A. de la Peña town has 66 students (35 boys and 31 girls) and that the children have lunch and tea at school? The Headmistress has told me a number of things that the school needs. 50 % of the students come from a slum located 4 km from the school and that the childrens needs are not only related to study issues but to basic needs as well (food and clothing). On this first stage and due to the fact that classes are starting in March, we are thinking of collecting stationery for the children to be used at school. Those people who want to collaborate with pencils, crayons, markers, chalks, sheets of paper, glues, different types of color sheets, notebooks, etc, you can contact me via mail or phone and we will coordinate to get together with the donations. Cel. 15 54 21 15 87Dear Each and Everyone, You will recall that late last year, Vicky and Tom wrote to us about Roosevelt School in Montevideo-- www.danceability.com / escuela_franklin_roosevelt.php.When they arrived in Buenos Aires in early January, we shared a very pleasant potluck and learned more about the School. Vicky, in her very good in Spanish, explained the work they do with dance, integrating people with and without disabilities while supporting the artistic expression of all people regardless of their disability experience or culture. It was very interesting to hear how in communicating, disseminating, discussing their work people come to know the School, participate in the activities, and help. We shared with them the idea of the value of communication in bringing us closer together, and all that can happen when we communicate positively. Vicky and Tom attended our last event, and will also be present on 13 / 2 when we will share the documentary, Mundo Alas. (There are places, so if anyone intends to come, and not has not yet confirmed, there is still time.) As you know, JugarxJugarSolidariamente, advocates that each person approaches the project that interests them, how, when and from where they want, so it will be a good opportunity for those who want to meet Tom and Vicky personally to learn more about the School and the work there. The school was founded in 1941 by Marisa Lusiardo de Leon in order to provide integrated services including educational, medical, psychological, social, and recreational services to people with physical disabilities while searching for equal opportunities, equitable participation, and the betterment in the condition of life for each individual and their families.The vision is to be recognized at a national level for high quality and performance in the service to people with physical disabilities by way of a system of integrated rehabilitation services. Provides education, transportation, meals, and snacks free of charge to students from low-income families who have no economic means to provide a quality education for their children. The Uruguayan government provides a small portion of the schools operating budget The National Association for Crippled Children, which Marisa created to support the school, carries out on-going fundraising.The school provides an integrated interdisciplinary approach for school-age children with disabilities. In addition, an early childhood program for three to seven year olds provides early stimulation.A support team works with families to help their children. Physical therapy is an essential component of the integrated approach since all students suffer from motor impairments. An individual treatment program of physical therapy is provided to each child in order to help them achieve maximum mobility. Physical therapy is provided in several ways; in traditional one-on-one therapeutic settings, hydrotherapy in the whirlpool or swimming pool, in games and equipment such as tunnels, balls, hammocks, and puzzles, as well as various workshops, such as gardening, cooking, crafts, chess, computers, music and dance. The staff includes teachers, physical therapists, an occupational therapist, psychologists, social workers, and a speech and language specialists.
